Blood Sugar, Hex Magic
I had a glucose tolerance test yesterday morning. Kind of a pain in the ass. Basically, I didn't eat anything after 7PM Wednesday, and at 7:30AM Thursday, had my blood drawn to check the glucose level. Then they gave me a super-sugary orange drink - sort of like flat orange soda. Then they tapped me for blood again at 30 minutes, an hour, two hours, and three hours. All the while, I could eat nothing.
The combination of blood being taken and having nothing to eat over the course of fifteen hours, except this sugar drink - well, that wasn't fun. I was okay when I left the hospital, and drove over to work - which is next door to the hospital. I walked in to chat with everybody, letting them know how things went, et cetera. I had originally though I might work that afternoon, but I was feeling a little wonky after all that, and had already decided to take the rest of the day off.
Well, over the course of chatting with the folks at work and checking my email, I got really wonky. Cold sweats. Little bit of wobbly limbs. Thought it might be a bad idea to drive home, so I grabbed a Snickers bar, then went up to grab lunch in the cafeteria. That fixed me right up, and I went home to await my doctor's receipt of the results from the hospital. My half hour and hour measurements were a little higher than the range the hospital considers usual, but my doctor assures me my blood sugar is normal, no insulin resistance.
Having received a clean bill of health in that regard, I was pleased. I still have a cholesterol test coming up later on, and the blood pressure is a concern, but - eh, if I gotta go, a massive stroke's a good way to do it.
Of course, it was extremely unhelpful to my blood pressure to learn that D&D 4th Edition is on the way next year. More streamlining might be a good thing, but - dammit, I just was getting my campaign into a nice groove with 3.5! I'll probably continue to run as 3.5 unless 4 just knocks my socks off. Really think they could've gone another two years before doing 4th.
Going out to play Magic for the first time in about a month tonight. I think I might be losing my muse for the game, which would be nice. My bank account would be pleased.
