My Playstation games will have to wait - my PS1 memory card gave up the ghost. This means the loss of minor progress on Final Fantasy 6 and Lunar, but most painfully, the loss of my Castlevania : Symphony of the Night data. Which was complete. Every monster, every treasure item in the game, I'd found.

Of course, thinking about it rationally, that meant the replay value was pretty low.

Movie Night was cancelled last night - I whiled away the hours with Katamari Damacy instead.

Movie Night went on as usual last night, despite my cold - actually, attendance was really good, so I was pleased about that. We watched Jet Li's Fearless, and .. yes, we indulged in a little heckling. It was a good movie, really, but.. sometimes it's difficult to restrain comments.

I'd blame Mystery Science Theater, but I think I did this before ever seeing that show, to some degree. And perhaps we were all just in a snarky mood.

I'm hoping to run my D&D game this weekend, but I need to check my players' availability.

Last night at movie night, my friends and I watched From Russia With Love, the second of the myriad James Bond pictures. Silly? A little. But quite enjoyable, and it's one of the classics. Naturally, some discussion ensued about the upcoming Casino Royale - it occurred to me that Daniel Craig, with his pinched face and fair hair, more resembles the SPECTRE-trained killer in From Russia With Love than he resembles James Bond.

This is clearly a matter of national importance and must be rectified immediately.

What a neat little movie. Very tightly constructed - sort of reminds me of a good Twilight Zone episode. I suppose the only downside was Christian Bale's impenetrable Cockney accent. There are two nice little 'twists' to the film - and though I guessed both of them (and suspected a third which did not come, to be fair) they weren't especially telegraphed, like the "revelation" in The Sixth Sense.

I also had a dental cleaning and a haircut yesterday, but The Prestige nicely compensated for both of those annoyances.

Tonight's movie night. Not sure what we'll watch. This coming weekend, I think I may see the new Bond flick.

So terribly disappointed with the Trick or Treaters last night. I had a grand total of 22. Several had no costumes, just street clothes. A couple were too old to really be Trick or Treating. And there was a general lack of enthusiasm - many didn't even say "Trick or Treat." There were a few adorable under-fours whose parents were able to prompt into saying "Trick or Treat" and "Thank you", at least, but sheesh.

Clearly, what I need is a sexy co-hostess to boost ratings. I already give out good candy.

Fortunately, move night actually proceeded as I'd hoped, and we settled in for The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, which it had been a while since I'd seen. I should probably buy a copy of it sometime.

Someone has thoughtfully given me digital candy corn for my LiveJournal account. Thank you, anonymous benefactor! Unlike real candy corn, digital candy corn won't make me gag, so that makes it an ideal little gift.

Tonight would ordinarily be movie night, and I don't think I'm going to cancel that, but I have my doubts about anyone showing up. If they do, movies will be watched. If not, I'll do something else. All the trick or treating should be over by the time we'd ordinarily start.

Speaking of which, I have Snickers and Three Musketeers bars for the boys and ghouls. That's right, I buy the good candy. Why? Because I have to eat the leftovers, and I won't eat crappy candy.

Movie Night got cancelled last night, but I got some card-trading done.

Today, I get my comics. Plus, I have several things lined up to do at home this evening. Friday, I play Magic. Saturday, D&D. Sunday, I have to go into work insanely early to learn more about or server patching process at work. It's going to be a full week - except for Thursday, which will probably get dedicated to City of Heroes, and/or writing D&D notes. And at some point, I'll need to watch my recorded shows from the week, though I already made time yesterday for Venture Brothers and Robot Chicken.

Most importantly, must get to bed on time.

I didn't get everything done on the long weekend that I wanted to do, but that's okay. I never do. I did catch up with some MST3K episodes and watched some of my long overdue Netflix titles, and I got plenty of sleep. I may have to take a day next month as well.

Tonight's movie night, and I have no idea what we'll be watching. Though if nobody can decide, perhaps I should inflict on them Red Zone Cuba, which I watched on MST3K yesterday, and is the new champion for worst movie ever. (It is also known as Night Train to Mundo Fine.)

Movie Night went well - there was the usual bout of indecision on the part of my guests as to what we should watch, but I spied my copy of the awesome Murder by Death, and suggested it. There was murmured assent, and all seemed to enjoy. This movie's been a favorite of mine for years - I think I first caught it on cable sometime in my formative years - I vaguely recall seeing the alternate ending which is not on the DVD. Since it was well-received, perhaps we'll screen The Cheap Detective sometime soon as well.

"Room full of empty people!"

Tonight's movie night, of course. Tomorrow's comic book day, as well as the day some friends and I are taking Eric out for a birthday dinner. I'll also need to take a detour tomorrow evening to drop off [livejournal.com profile] mint_tea's tea - and I even think it's minty.

Thursday I might actually be able to catch up with my Netflix rentals - I hate leaving them sit unwatched, as it's really only wasting my money, but sometimes other stuff is more important. Mowing the lawn last night, for instance. I hope that's the last time I need to mow this season - I was planning to run the thing out of gas when I finished, so it would endure winter storage better, and quite conveniently, that only took about a minute.

That's the secret of my ability to stay upright today. Yesterday, I was so exhausted, I took a half day off of work to go home and get a nap. Then Eric popped by for movie night and Magic trading, which turned into two hours of Magic trading, followed by an hour and a half of him sitting on my couch putting the cards he'd acquired into his binders. I have to start being more direct with the "Get the Hell out and sort the damn cards at home"-style comments. But Eric's ability to underestimate the time required for tasks is legendary, and his imperviousness to hints is even moreso.

So I got in bed after midnight. Again. So I feel crappy at work. Again.

But I'm not going to take a half-day this time, I'm going to power through it by sheer force of will, and hopefully I won't get too snippy with anyone. And then I'll drive to Morgantown after and get my comics, which will brighten my day. And I'll go to bed around 10PM, which should restore my sanity to nominal levels.

The Return

One of my favorite comic strips on the web has apparently resumed publication after a two-year hiatus.

I give you.. Elf Only Inn.

In other news, I crammed in two MST episodes yesterday, so I feel I've done my part to get things back up to speed. Tonight is movie night, and we may watch MST3K as part of that, but it wouldn't be the next episode for my project.

I really should've gone to bed just a weeeeee bit earlier..

Movie Night

I dug out Good Morning, Vietnam for the movie selection last night, and it went over well. I seem to have a bizarre itchy spot right in the corner of my eye that just won't. Go. AWAY.

Arrested Development Season 3 and the Weird Al Show arrived yesterday from Amazon, along with the latest MST3K boxed set.

And now, memes! )

Movie Night was cancelled last night, so I made use of the freed time to finally go back to Dragon Quest 8 - encouraged by [livejournal.com profile] eemick2's attainment of the second ending (which I refuse to do until I've properly completed all the bits of the game) I went and completed all but the last battle of the Dragovian Trials that serve as the bulk of the post-game content. The last one promises to be hellishly hard, but I might be able to manage it.

If I can do that, then I'm just left with filling out the alchemy recipe book (which entails repeatedly killing certain monsters so I can get the necessary ingredients).

Today is Comic Book Day. I will once again be sorely tempted to acquire Magic : The Gathering cards. I tell myself it's just to replace some of my more antiquated cards with current-edition versions, but that's probably a self-delusion.

My subscription to Dragon Magazine is up for renewal, and I'm just not sure I want to renew it. I still like the magazine when I read it, but two or three issues will stack up before I get around to reading them. I don't look forward to them at all. Part of the reason, I think, is that I have no use for Eberron material - which makes up a small portion. Part of it is the declining quality of the included comic strips.

And part of it may be that I feel everything that needs to be said about D&D has been said, and anything else I can come up with myself. I'm going to be reading the most recent pair of issues before I decide, to see if there's anything useful - or rather, enough useful to justify the $40 annual pricetag.

Tonight is Movie Night, hopefully.

G the B

Movie night last night consisted of the first four episodes of Greg the Bunny, which was time well spent, in my mind. It'd been a while since I'd watched them. I even watched the fifth episode after everyone left.

I've got a nagging headache and haven't been sleeping solidly - but last night was a little better than the two previous, so perhaps things are clearing up.

Today's comic book day, which means after work I get to make the half-hour drive to Morgantown and then another half hour back. I've got a lot of stuff to do, though - probably won't get to finish reading them all. Tomorrow evening there's a faculty/staff event here at work, and on Friday, my parents should be in town.

Bureaucracy

Filling out forms for various kinds of insurance now - I won't get my first check until the 31st. That kind of annoys me, so things may by tight around the end of the month.

Movie Night actually occurred last night, we watched Grosse Pointe Blank, which is an excellent and funny film. So that was fun.

Most of my cold symptoms have backed off, replaced by the general tired malaise that often accompanies sickness. Recovery, or prelude to my utter destruction? Hard to say. NyQuil and DayQuil have been surprisingly helpful this time around - usually they only provide a tiny amount of relief.

Tonight, I am going to get a haircut on my way home. It is a must. It is essential. It is also movie night.
candidgamera: (Default)
I endure numerous unusual traffic delays. I forget my breakfast candy-bar. My ankle is acting up.

Most importantly, this morning, the cold-water handle for my upstairs faucet broke. Meaning it no longer will turn off. I'll have to try and dissect it later and see if I need to call a plumber.

Movie night was also a bust, but that was last night.

I've been watching Freaks and Geeks on DVD lately, acquired through Netflix. Three episodes down so far - I like it, a lot. The only downside is that the main little-kid character has a few annoying acting tics that make it sometimes hard to watch him. It may just be an accurate simulation of a 14 year old, though.

Tonight's movie night, and hopefully folks will be able to attend.
